About Bestland Retirement
In the late 1800’s the Best Family settled in the area that became known as Bestland. In 1908, a one room school house was built adjacent to where the Bestland Apartments are located today. This school, known as the Bestland School, had no running water or plumbing for the students and teachers. Water and supplies were carried in by the neighborhood volunteers. Life was a lot tougher back then.
Orginally Bestland was called the Camlu Apartments. The first phase of Camlu was built back in 1972. After many years with a long waiting list, the owners decided to expand the community with a second phase..the second phase was started in 1986 and completed just two years later in 1988.
The Bestland residents had a fine appreciation for the area’s rich and long history. Many believed the apartments should have been named Bestland originally and wanted to change her name. One evening, the residents took a vote and agreed to change the name from Camlu back to Bestland. The vote passed unanimously, and we have been calling our community Bestland ever since…
